π The Sun is middle-aged!
That big bright ball in the sky is actually a middle-aged star! The Sun was born about 5 billion years ago and still has about 5 or 6 billion years to go. But hereβs the wild part: one day the Sun will get 40% brighter, boil the oceans, and make Earth as hot as Venus! Donβt worry though β that wonβt happen for a really, really long time!
π Stars donβt really twinkle
Even though we sing βTwinkle Twinkle Little Star,β stars donβt actually twinkle at all! That flickering is caused by Earthβs atmosphere. As the light from a star travels through the sky, it bounces around in the air, making it look like itβs twinkling. If you could go to space and look at stars, theyβd shine without any twinkle at all!
π°οΈ Looking at stars is like looking into the past!
Did you know that when you look up at the stars, youβre actually seeing them as they were thousands or even millions of years ago? Thatβs because the light from stars takes a super long time to reach us. So when you stargaze, itβs like using a time machine in the sky!
π The closest star is super far away!
Besides our Sun, the closest star to Earth is called Proxima Centauriβbut donβt expect to visit it anytime soon! Even our fastest spaceship would take about 35,000 to 70,000 years to get there. It’s a whopping 4.2 light-years away!
π A Christmas Tree Made ofβ¦ Cardboard?! π²
In Asbury Park, New Jersey, something amazing happened at the Grand Arcade! Instead of using a regular tree, artists made a giant Christmas tree out of cardboard! π¨
This special tree, called βThe Giving Tree,β includes pieces of the townβs beach, buildings, and music historyβincluding a nod to famous singer Bruce Springsteen! It even lights up in cool ways as the day goes on, changing how it looks. And the best part? It can be recycled after the holidays!
