One quiet afternoon, I was sitting on my bed, working on my school assignment on my laptop. I had been so focused that I didn’t even notice how thirsty I was—until I spotted my water bottle. I quickly took a few big sips, and it felt so refreshing.
Then, I walked out to the balcony to get some fresh air. Sometimes, it’s good to step outside, breathe deeply, and remember how lucky we are to be alive and healthy.
As I looked around, something caught my attention. I heard loud crying from the house across the street. I could see people trying to comfort each other. The sound made my heart feel heavy, even though I didn’t know exactly what had happened.
I stepped back inside and closed the curtains. Just then, my mum came in. She had also heard the crying. When I told her what I saw, she sighed and explained that the man in that family had been very sick. He had lung cancer and had been going to many doctors, hoping to get better.
Later, I saw the family again. His wife and children were helping him into the house, tears falling from their eyes. It was clear how sad and worried they were.
That moment taught me something very important—our health is one of the most precious gifts we have. Sometimes, we don’t realise how important it is until it’s in danger. Just like we take care of our toys or books, we need to take care of our bodies and minds too.
Being healthy means eating well, staying active, getting rest, and avoiding harmful things. When we’re healthy, we can do the things we love, play with our friends, and enjoy time with our families. But if we don’t take care of ourselves, it can hurt not just us, but also the people who love us.
So let’s remember—health is priceless. And the best way to show we are thankful for life is by looking after ourselves every single day.
