My First Days

Starting something new can feel both exciting and a little scary. I still remember three big “first days” in my life—my first day at a new school, my first day in a new city, and my first day of college. Each one taught me something special.

I went to the same school from kindergarten all the way to Grade 7. All my friends were kids I had known since I was little. We didn’t even need to try to become friends—it just happened naturally.

But then, one day, my parents told me I would be switching schools. I felt two things at once: super excited and super nervous! What if I didn’t make any friends? What if no one liked me? What if I said something silly and everyone laughed?

On the first day at my new school, I took a deep breath and walked in. I was still worried, but something amazing happened: the teachers were kind and welcoming, and the students were friendly. I didn’t feel alone for long!

But my most nerve-wracking first day was when we moved to a new city, and I had to start at another school where I didn’t know anyone at all. Everything felt new and strange.

When I got there, a teacher told me to sit on a bench and wait for assembly. I felt so nervous sitting there by myself—until two girls came up to me with a smile and asked, “Are you in our class?” They were! They showed me around, introduced me to other kids and teachers, and even told me some funny school stories. My nervousness started to disappear, and I began to feel at home.

Later on, when I started college, I felt nervous again, but this time it wasn’t as scary—because my best friend was already studying there! She even passed by my class on purpose just to say hello and make me feel better. That day turned out to be a lot of fun.

Looking back, I’ve learned something important:
First days might seem scary, but they’re also the beginning of something amazing. Don’t be afraid to smile, ask for help, or talk to someone new. Who knows? That “first” could turn into one of your best memories!
